Since 1882 Mt Nyiragongo has erupted 34 times with activity that can be continuous for years at a time with the last eruption taking place in 2002. The 4-6 hours hike to the camp gives you fantastic views of the crater as you capture the full intensity of the glow and light from the lava as it is constantly churning and boiling over in the night.
